One man, 50 dogs

dsc_0194Feb 25 – Meet Mariano, a man in Santiago who works a newspaper stand next to the presidential palace. He has 15 dogs at his home and takes care of an additional 35 in the city. Among the magazines and newspapers hangs a poster Mariano made in memory of one of the streets dogs in his care. It reads,
“He was my friend, why did you kill him? Stop the slaughter.”

Although the Santiago municipality has an official no-kill policy, Mariano never knows when one of his friends will disappear. He says he is an unhappy man because of how the dogs are treated, but he tries to be optimistic that the dogs are adopted, not killed. dsc_0430a1
