Paloma

March 9, Monday
dsc_0426aMeet “Paloma.” Late one night in Vina del Mar, a bunch of drunken thugs threw her through the glass of a shop window. When the owner of the shop found her, he took her to a vet to be stitched up. Her broken bones have healed, although the leftover pain is visible when she walks, and Paloma now lives in a cardboard box in the same shopping center. No blanket, the homeless people would steal it. The shop owner still cares for her and leaves food and water, but she subsists in a continual state of nervous anxiety in the noisy city center. It’s telling of the situation when the local animal advocates talk of her as one of the lucky ones.
