Chaiten dog needs a home!

An enormous amount of effort was required to evacuate a portion of the remaining dogs from Chaitén, a town still considered a disaster area since the eruption of Volcán Chaitén. One of these dogs is still in Puerto Montt, waiting since mid-April to be adopted. Milly has been in confinement for nearly five months, unwanted despite all the suffering she has already endured in surviving a natural disaster, living as a stray puppy, and then being captured, evacuated and caged. This is a photo of her in my arms just an hour before I had to catch my flight back to the US from Santiago back in April –

Since that day, she was attacked by another dog and tragically lost one eye.

I am told that for this reason, no one in Chile wants her. I find this hard to believe. With all the feedback I have received from kind-hearted Chileans, I know there is someone there who has a space in their lives for this dog. She is sweet, gentle and ready for life-long devotion. But it takes more than compassion to adopt a dog, it takes time, money, patience, commitment and adjustment. If anyone has that to give, and would like to adopt Milly, please contact Carolina Ahumada.

    Carolina,

I live in Oregon, U.S.A. and want to know if Milly still needs a home, and if so, would it be possible for someone to from Chile to help us transport her up to America? Thank you very much, all the best,
